How many other pro-choice people are tired of hearing abortion equated to murdering babies?

Question by hwinnum: How many other pro-choice people are tired of hearing abortion equated to murdering babies?
It is inflammatory speech designed to make pro choice people seem like cold blooded murderers who would just as easily snuff out an infant. I understand that from their viewpoint, abortion is murder, but they fail to understand the pro choice viewpoint that the early term fetus, embryo, blastocyst and fertilized egg, does not have any rights that supercede the mother.
The Bible says “thou shall not murder” (not “kill”), and murder is a legal definition. Killing an enemy soldier and killing in self defense is not murder, In the US, abortion is not defined as murder.
If you believe that abortion is murder, then don’t have one, but allow the rest of us to follow our beliefs. It is not a black and white issue.
Gwennie B: Thank you for explaining things so well to some of the other respondents.
Ken: Do you support stupid and lazy people having children? What will happen to those kids?
Mommanuke: Obama is the one using “divide and conquer” He’s fomenting class warfare by dividing Americans into the “rich” or the “working class”.
WACO: Although I support abortion rights, I also support the Catholic Church in its complaint against Obamacare. You questioned the separation of church and state – that means the state should not impose laws that cause an unnecessary burden on religion. This isn’t the first time the gov’t has felt justified in violating religious beliefs ( http://naissucks.com/wordpress/?tag=wisconsin-prosecuting-amish) , it’s just the most noticeable.

EDIT: @Dick Lewiston: Regardless of personal views on abortion, being linguistically accurate is important. Feticide is not the same as neonaticide, which is not the same as infanticide. People who muddle up the terms and talk about “killing a baby” are being ambiguous- are they talking about abortion, or are they talking about infanticide?

EDIT: @Ken: “Abortion is nothing but an after the fact method of birth control because two people are either too lazy or too stupid to have protected sex, 99.9 percent of the time.”

Actually, a majority- 54%- of women who have abortions had used a contraceptive method (usually the condom or the pill) during the month they became pregnant (http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html )

“Would you kill your 6 year old to keep a secret or becasue it might embarrass you or make you uncomfortable for a few months?”

Your six-year old is not currently holed up in your uterus.

“To me, the mother does not have the right to kill off a child without regard for that child’s father, or grandparents that might take it and love it as their own or give it up for adoption.”

Adoption is an alternative to parenting, not to pregnancy and childbirth. The only alternative to pregnancy and childbirth is abortion. In other words, if a woman wants an abortion, adoption solves nothing- unless she is allowed to have an abortion (and then the father or grandparents may certainly try to gestate the removed tissue to term if they want, although I think they might have a little trouble in that regard). Nobody has the right to force a woman to act as an incubator against her will.

EDIT: @RockHunter: Actually, there were few or no laws against abortion prior to “quickening” (when the fetus can first be felt to move, around 5 months) in America, until doctors began to push for criminalization in the 1820’s. With their campaign, it remained illegal in most places until 1973, when Roe v. Wade repealed laws that criminalized abortion.

In addition, the Roe v. Wade ruling built on the 1963 ruling Griswold v. Connecticut, which struck down a Connecticut law banning birth control- that’s where the Supreme Court first believed a right to privacy was enumerated in the Constitution.

  1. I consider myself pro-choice because I think if someone wants to have an abortion (in the first trimester) it is their right and their body. I personally would never have one because I do think it is murder. Over the years I have become less pro-choice as I have seen how it is abused. In college girls are using it like birth control and I have worked with professional business women who had them and could have easily raised a child.

  2. Sort of, but frankly, I no longer care.

I am sick of paying higher taxes to fund cops, courts, jails, shrinks, teachers, schools, higher insurance to cover theft and higher prices to cover pilferage in stores. Children raised by one, crack addicted, parent are making the quality of our live miserable. Stop it, just stop it!

If you are unable to supply food, shelter, love, education and training for a child – DON’T HAVE ONE. What is happening is right wing extremist pressure 16 year old girls to give birth and we pay the tab. No more. If you can’t raise your child properly – don’t have it. I would rather have my taxes pay for an abortion than my health care try to stitch my head back together after one of these ferrel kids hits me with a pipe, or worse.

  3. Yeah, but I’m also tired of hearing “food stamp president”, “drug using welfare mooches”, and all the other ridiculous accusations the right throws up as just another wedge in the fabric of our nation.

    Divide and conquer!

  4. You can have your beliefs but stop complaining about ours. Abortion is nothing but an after the fact method of birth control because two people are either too lazy or too stupid to have protected sex, 99.9 percent of the time. To me, the mother does not have the right to kill off a child without regard for that child’s father, or grandparents that might take it and love it as their own or give it up for adoption. Would you kill your 6 year old to keep a secret or becasue it might embarrass you or make you uncomfortable for a few months? I don’t think you would. Did throwing that bird egg on the ground and breaking it kill the baby bird? Yes it did.

  5. I agree with you. I’m pro choice, but abortion shouldn’t be used for birth control when contraceptives are so readily available. The goverment (Health & Welfare, etc) shouldn’t pay for them either. Planned Parenthood receives enough donations to cover most of them or doctor’s donate their time. And while I’m here, the government shouldn’t be telling the Catholic (or any other church) Church to hand out contraceptives! See what would happen if Obama tried that with the Muslims. Never happen. He’s a closet Muslim!

  6. The US government used to consider abortion murder, until some idiot judge misinterpreted the Constitution and read baby murder the same as the right not to be searched without warrant.
Just because the government doesn’t consider it murder, doesn’t mean it isn’t.

  7. When blocking access to contraception methods result in increase of abortions, will the GOP be satisfied? The Guardians Of Plutocracy (GOP) and the Catholic Church want to impose their views and beliefs on all women. The present efforts to prevent women from access to methods of contraception will, not may, but will have unintended, and/or reckless, deleterious effects on humanity!

Many women, who do not want to conceive a child, yet becomes pregnant because she did not have access to methods of contraception, will seek an abortion. This will significantly increase the number of abortions over that which are presently being performed; this is human nature.

I am 76 years old and vividly remember the days when abortion was illegal everywhere. In those days, women would dispose of newborns in back alley dumpsters, or have an abortion with a clothes hanger and bleed to death, or have a backroom abortion by a quack and bleed to death.

The worse part of this conundrum is that it is nothing more than a political movement to vilify the president. There seems to be no level to which the Guardians of Plutocracy (GOP) will not sink to prevent a second term for our president. This is nothing short of shameful. It is also an effort of futility, since President Obama will be reelected in November of this year. This is a foregone conclusion to anyone with a reasoned mind.

What ever happened to the separation of church and state? Why are churches above the law? Religion is working tirelessly to force its views and beliefs on those of us who demand a freedom from religion. There will be no freedom of religion without a concomitant freedom from religion. That is just common sense.
